Most dog owners give their pets dry food. And there is nothing wrong with it – it is convenient, simple, and undoubtedly safe because the composition of ready-made food is developed by specialists who choose the proportions so that the dog does not lack anything. This does not mean, however, that, as in the olden days, you can’t cook dogs your own meals. Of course, you can! You need to know how to do it so that your dog is healthy and in good shape. The composition of an ideal homemade dog diet is meat, filler, vegetables in equal proportions (1: 1: 1). So check what to cook your dog to provide him with all the necessary ingredients.

What portions?

Once we decide to feed the dog food prepared by ourselves and we know what to cook the dog, the problem arises: how much to properly serve? And how often? The matter is simple – we feed an adult dog twice a day, with the morning and evening portions being the same size. Puppies more often (it is worth consulting a veterinarian here). When it comes to the amount of food that a dog should get, it is 5% of his body weight per day. For example – a dog weighing 30 kg will eat 1.5 kg of cooked food per day, so one serving should weigh 750 g.

What to cook for a dog?

The dog’s meal should be well-balanced. Thanks to the fact that you provide your dog with as many services of available ingredients as possible, you provide him with the required development. So, what to cook a dog, he lacked nothing?

Meat

It is a necessary ingredient of a home meal. It provides the protein needed for the body to function correctly. The best are poultry (chicken, turkey, duck) and beef. Rabbit or lamb will also work, as well as fish. Let’s only cook meat with cartilage, not bones, which are sharp and dangerous when cooked. It is also good to change the type of meat within one species, i.e., chicken, let’s cook the body once, once the leg, and once the breast.

Extender

It is primarily … to fill the dog’s stomach, i.e., make the dog full. But not only – carbohydrates are a primary source of energy, without which tissues would not work well. To fill the dog’s stomach are suitable: rice (white or brown), pasta, potatoes (freshly cooked, not from the fridge) and porridge (although not every dog ​​tolerates it). Oat flakes are also an exciting idea.

Vegetables

Vitamins, minerals, and fiber are the main ingredients of vegetables. They are healthy and not too calorie, so they do not fatten. Also, they have a good effect on digestion.

Dogs can be served:

Additives

Oil and olive oil

Each type of fat is an attractive addition to dog food because it is fat that makes it tasty. It is best to serve olive or oil – linseed, borage, salmon, although rapeseed or sunflower oil is also suitable. Vegetable fats support the digestive process, contain vitamins, and improve the condition of the skin and fur.

DOSAGE: Twice a week, add a tablespoon (for a dog over 15 kg), or a teaspoon (for a small dog) of oil or oil to a serving of food. Because the oil is fat, reduce the amount of food.

Eggs

It contains macro- and microelements, vitamins A and E, biotin, and easily digestible protein. It’s best to cook the egg to avoid the risk of salmonella infection.

DOSAGE: One cooked egg a week, give the dog a dessert after the meal or crush it and sprinkle it with food in a bowl.

Cottage cheese, yogurt, kefir

Dairy is a good source of calcium for dogs, but also vitamins and minerals. Natural yogurt and kefir contain bacteria that are good for the digestive system. You have to remember that the products we serve the dog should have a low salt content and the least amount of fat.

DOSAGE: 3-4 tablespoons cottage cheese, yogurt (only natural!) Or kefir add to a portion of food once a week. Change dairy products in the weeks to come.

Fruits

Although fruits are not a regular part of dog food, it is worth adding them. But in moderation, because they contain a lot of sugar. Most dogs, however, like them and willingly eat breakfast fragrant … strawberries. Also, it is a source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Dogs can be served: apples, pears, bananas, raspberries, melons, watermelons, strawberries, blueberries, blueberries.

DOSAGE: Adding chopped apples or bananas (2-3 tablespoons) several times a week is safe, and if we have doubts whether we don’t give them too often, let’s consult a veterinarian.
